Background on Civic Center campaign:
Since April of last year, LGBT Compassion and AoC have filed complaints and taken legal measures against bird vendors exercising animal cruelty, while monitoring their activities.
Civic Center has been a challenge, particularly with the primary vendor, Raymond Young Poultry, but we have been able to get media attention on this issue, as well as have impact on other bird vendors acting outside the law.
Because of the lack of action on the city's part against this animal cruelty, we are successfully amplifying attention with peaceful demonstrations.
CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
We have just completed our latest demonstration on Wednesday, the 24st of March, which was our first weekday demonstration at the market.
Even with our small advocate number, Wednesday, we were able to get Market management's notice, as well as distribute a sizable number of pamphlets. Once again, vendors expressed their support, and many patrons thanked us for our advocacy.
Demonstrations have been particularly successful for the last few weeks, as we have distributed nearly 1,500 leaflets.
YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN OUR EVENTS!
We are pleased with our effectiveness but it would contribute to have more advocates join us at this event.
We could use your help.
We've been able to get market attention and make a statement with our small group (we certainly have been noticed!), but we need more people if we want this to be an effective campaign.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Isn't it a little repugnant to protest this event, clearly intended to offend the Asian San Franciscans who typically get their meat in this fashion? Through purchasing chickens directly for their own slaughter, they at least better understand the cycle of animal life and death for human consumption. Why is the focus here at the little market, instead of pursuing protest against cognitive-dissonance-causing factory meat? I don't see this as anything more than another example of a typical "enlightened" colonialist attitude towards a culture which first-world, middle-class vegans don't bother to understand.
I am a vegan. I believe that non-human animals deserve rights just as human animals do, but I also believe that this action only alienates people who could be more sympathetic to the cause if given a relatable context to consider their actions.

And merely translating your pamphlets to Cantonese doesn't do enough. There is clearly a racist element to the text, found in the first page (text available at http://www.army-of-compassion.net/, under "English Farmers Market Pamphlet," located halfway through the page), when the text derogatorily mentions "ritual sacrifice." I find it quite disingenuous to emphasize a potential barbarous, uncivilized faction of market-goers.
But I'm not going to debate whether or not Raymond Young Poultry engages in very nefarious business. They do. They do. They do. I just hope that the vegan movement can see outside of a privileged, holier-than-though lens.
