Black Studen Union celebrate BLACK FAMILY DAY at San Francisco State University.
by Francisco Da Costa
Saturday Feb 6th, 2010 9:38 AM
The Black Student Union, at SF State University, has been fighting great odds to be on the front line of sound education, community services, student activism, working and attending classes on time, policy making on many fronts, and a host of other projects that would make decent human beings - very proud. It has been my pleasure to work with many of the Black Student Union members - and at yesterday's BLACK FAMILY DAY those present - had much to give, to say, offer and what is more - celebrate.
February, the shortest month of the year has been set aside as Black History Month.

Blacks have contributed much to Society all over the world and to human kind from the beginning of times. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya and so know much about being African, Black, and the many names that have been given by those in authority and brain washing - as things change better for them and less for people that are NOT White.

Black Student Union started at San Francisco State University in the early 1960s. There was a time when you mentioned Black Student Union (BSU) and thousands of students and supporters would rally - and with such large crowds, sound leadership, and a plan of action that could be executed quickly and effectively - the authorities that be - that are and were mostly RACIST - feared the Black Student Union and more.

It is NO surprise the San Francisco State University was the first place where Black Studies were initiated. Many paid a price, suffered to make this happen - but, many can assure the world the SEED that was planted, was well soiled, well nurtured and today is a big tree with many branches, bearing the best of fruits - all over the world.

At yesterday's Black Family Day celebration the organizers mostly BLACK SISTAS that I know personally made many personal sacrifices, worked very hard, and tried their best to put their best foot possible.

While many others - were preparing themselves for parties for the Super Bowl festivities, other choosing to have a good time, still others forgetting the values of Family Life. Many others just plain in the dark not being educated on issues - and completely oblivion of what it really means to belong to the Black Student Union - more to support such a Black Family event.

Bishop Ernest Jackson accompanied me to the Black Student Union (BSU) - Family Black Day - that took place in the famous Jack Adams Hall. The BSU organizers had put their best foot forward and now - the event was about to start - a little late but one could feel the good vibes in the air.

The drummer well liked by the students many call him uncle is a professor and knows me from my activism. He cleansed the air with this superb drumming and then blessed the people and the environment - African style. Imagine requesting the permission of the Elders to start the prayers - calling upon all the elements, proclaiming, and giving praise to all those values - that African Sages from time immemorial value. With the inter-acting of the Strangers and those who blend fake beliefs - did their best to destroy - over the last 400 years - plus in America.

Tigest, Samera, Kay, Indigo, Justin, Kristal, Coby, Erika, and many others that worked so hard behind the scenes to make this event possible should be commended. Kudos to all of you.

Jack spoke about the Oscar Grant Family and I have been following that ordeal from day one. The Oscar Grant episode is getting from bad to worse - where the Media is trying to tarnish the names of those that are and were close to Oscar Grant. There is only one KILLER in this case and that is the person who pulled the gun. On this Black Family Day - this episode is an eye opener about blatant RACISM and propagating divisiveness by those in authority.

Bart Police Officers for years have shot first and asked questions later. This time they were caught with their pants down and their hands in the cookie jar. Now, these vermin, racist to the core, will use Spin and Media to tarnish the names of the innocent and try to say their KILLER is a VICTIM.

As I said there is only ONE killer who with intent, and full of rage pulled his GUN and shot a BLACK man who was hand cuffed. Shame on Bay Area Rapid Transport (BART), the BART Directors, the BART Police Chief that eased out with Early Retirement, and the host of lawyers, liars, and other that have failed to hold up any decency and used LIES and more LIES to put Oscar Grant and the innocent victims that were with him.

Shame of the former Oakland District Attorney - who left his post when he found that people power - demanded he resign.

Minister Keith Muhammad from Oakland and my very good friend, was present - and spoke in detail about Family Values and how Black Folks must learn to appreciate and value - education. The Mater Plan is not to give opportunities by those that plan these adverse actions. An educated Black - woman or man is a nightmare to those that want to keep Blacks, down. Therefore, those of us that have the ability to learn, and are educated - must represent to the best of our - ability.
We must be strong in soul, mind, and body - an all rounded human being can make things difficult for the devil. The devil is one that feeds on EVIL.

The students and young people that recited their poems, danced, and performed for the audience were much appreciated - at the Black Family Day event. Most of the performers gave it their all - and where any goodness sprouts from the heart - that is the best gift that any human being can give to other decent - human beings. And believe me there are decent - human beings.

Awards were given and I got one - the students seem to appreciate my activism - but, as most of you know - I have to step up and defend our children and elders. If activism is a name that people recognize to serve our children and Elders - then, let it be.

We have linked the students to our MOVEMENT in the Bayview Hunters Point. When LENNAR the Rogue Developer chose to harm our children and Elders - the San Francisco State University Students joined forces with us to learn about the issues and to support our on going cause.

It is one thing to learn in any University and that is good - the best thing is to put to good use the learning, the education. Anyone can try to learn, anyone can try to gather information, but an Educated person is one that picks the best and has the ability to DISCERN and be educated. That is why I say - if you are educated on issues - you can hold your ground and if those that think they can take you for ride - make any attempt to derail you - you can be prepared.

Good leaders know the way, show the way, and go the way.

In the year 2010 with a Black President in the White House - nothing much has changed. Remember, always the White House was built by Slave Labor and these were primarily - Black. Remember, the same holds true of Washington DC and many other monuments, roads, bridges, and monuments in the United States of America - built by Blacks.

Black inventors have contributed to every single field in the United States of America. Blacks have done much - but received little. It must be remembered, the Master Plan is to divide Blacks and the best way the ENEMY has managed to do that is divide the family. Incarcerate mostly Black intelligent men, pick on anyone who is of color. Pretend to have laws that kind of say they protect you - but, SHAFT you all the time.

Blacks have to be vigilant at all times. That is why when some act like FOOLS, put down the women with their FOUR letter words ( that most White women pretend to love), those RAP artists and others using these ploys - harm the Black community more and bring less healing, progress, and other values that mostly Black, women - have kept alive to this day.

As you may imagine every time there is a event that the Black Student Union put on - we must have the backing of Kay, Tigest, Samera, Erin, Kristal, Erika, Indigo - others mostly women to make good thing happen. Do not get me wrong - we still appreciate our Black Men - but, it just has to be said - in terms of sacrifice, hard work, hours put - the Black Women put it out and do it with a unique, flare. Kudos to all of you.

It was nice to see Coby my Brother - the man has a vision and I know he will be a leader and take us all to a better place. Justin continues to support our Sistas - and has given his best to the Black Student Union. Sorry, I could not greet you in person - but will soon.

Kay has stood up and taken a lead and doing well. Tigest and Samera have done well and supported the common cause. Indigo was missing but her good Spirit hovering around. So, was Erin working until 9 pm to make ends meet. Erin has done so much and continues to do so. I missed her, personally.

I could go on - but one has to survive - and so work is important - and then one has to study. Few know about the trials and tribulations of our Black Students - but one must always remember - WHERE THERE IS SACRIFICE, MORE GENUINE SACRIFICE - THERE IS LOVE.

Kudos to the organizers of the Black Family Day - and excuse me for NOT mentioning all the names - the many others I know by face and less by name - I chose to name some. I do appreciate everyone that was involved with the Black Family Day and not at liberty to know all of them.

The Professor drummed well and created the best environment possible. May we have many more Black Family Days. Asante Sana.
