This morning the Fresno Police Department evicted about 100 homeless people who were living on a vacant lot in downtown Fresno. The video below shows the homeless holding hands on the perimeter of the property saying they won’t move. FPD chief Jerry Dyer is then seen approaching the group and convincing them to pack up and move. Dyer tells them they can move to another vacant lot and that they (the police) will not stop them. When asked if they will be evicted from that encampment sometime in the future, Dyer says they will deal with that on another day.

Most of the homeless then packed up their belongings and moved to a vacant lot about 1 block north of the Ventura and F street encampment. Even as the homeless were moving to the new encampment, a bulldozer could be seen on the corner of Mono and F streets, within sight of the new encampment.

Representatives from the Fresno Housing Department came out to sign people up for subsidized housing. This was an attempt (somewhat successful) to weaken the resistance to the eviction.

how can you evict homeless people and not provide them an alternative place to go? the system isnt providing affordable housing, nor are they providing services to help homeless people get off their feet..

the system fails at providing people with access to the most basic things we need (food, water, housing, clothing), and then tells people to "go away, go somewhere else"!! its just a fucking empty lot!! the system cant even let us have THAT much???

what the fuck theyre just hiding the underlying poverty thats always there with capitalism!!!!!
