SF Bay Guardian Missing In Action-No Guardian Of Community Access
The San Francisco Bay Guardian which touts itself as a protector of public resources and represents community interests has failed to cover the privatization of the two San Francisco Community Access Channels
Bruce Brugman and the San Francisco Bay Guardian which proclaims that it represents the community and the defense of public spaces has been conspicuously silent about the transfer and privatization of the San Francisco community access channels. Even the SF Weekly did an article on the threat to the station but for some strange reason apparently this does not concern the "community" guardian.
In the transfer by Mayor Newsom and the Department of Technology, the station on 1720 Market st which the city spent over $1 million building has been shut down and the corporate board of the Bay Area Video Coalition and it's Executive Director Ken Ikeda will be spending millions of city funds to rebuild the station at the offices of BAVC where community producers will have to pay higher charges to use the equipment and spaces. This privatization scam of public funds is another example of the role of the Mayor and his agencies to shut down community spaces. Maybe the SF Bay Guardian is not interested in this rip-off of an important community broadcast vehicle.
