Switch national legislative focus to jobs?

Dear friends,

On Wednesday, 20 January 2010,
Tortuga mourns.

Yesterday, Jan. 19, Massachusetts voters
elected a Republican
to the U.S. Senate;
to fill a traditionally Democratic seat.

This [probably] destroys any chance
for a comprehensive
health-care reform bill;
because it takes sixty (60) votes
to end a filibuster in the Senate.


I expect gridlock in the Senate;
at least until after the November 2010 Congressional elections
[ when all House members must run;
plus around one-third of Senators].

To deal with gridlock,
Obama will need
to choose legislative tactics
the way porcupines make love --
VERY carefully.

IMQO,
he should switch gears,
to concentrate
[during 2010]
on:
(1) jobs;
and
(2) reforming Wall Street.
