A sheet with the phrase “consumerism killed XMAS” appeared in front of the Naivety scene in Lyman Park in the small tourist town of St. Helena. The sheet and message was a critique on the consumerism which runs rampant during the holidays. Instead of Christmas being a day of “good will toward humanity”, giving, and charity it is a time to shop. It is a time when we are told that shopping for expensive shit and giving it to loved ones is how we express love. It is a time when corporations try to convince us that happiness can be bought in a box. It is a time when dangerous corporations profit and the social dynamics that keep people poor remain unchallenged. The following was featured in the St. Helena Star newspaper in the police logs:
