Anonymous cyclists pay their respect on Nov. 24 to Walter Freeman who was killed earlier this month while riding his bicycle when police car struck him in University City by placing a “ghost bike” at the scene of the collision.

“A ghost bike is a memorial for a cyclist who was killed by a vehicle on the streets. They are placed at the crash site to remember the tragedy of the fallen and to remind drivers to be cautious and to share the road,” a local cyclist, who wishes to remain anonymous, said.

Walter Freeman, 63, was struck on the morning of Nov. 9 by a police officer driving a cruiser at the intersection of Genesee Ave. and Governor Drive.

Today, Saturday November 28th at between 3:05 and 3:10 PM the Ghost Bike memorial to Walter Freeman at Governor and Genesee, was removed by a member of the San Diego Police Department. It was placed on the trunk of the police cruiser and unceremoniously taken away. Sad, since it was only 4 days old.
