“For a colonized people the most essential value, because the most concrete, is first and foremost the land: the land which will bring them bread and, above all, dignity.”
Frantz Fanon (The Wretched of the Earth)
“Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned, everywhere is war, and until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation, until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes. I say…war!”
On Friday, November 20, some 200 protesters converge in Niilin to protest the apartheid wall (which was expanded by 500 meter in the last week) and land theft by the Israeli government and military. Representing the vest majority of youth from the village, the Shabab (youth in Arabic) defied the Israeli occupation forces equipped with the latest technological weaponry, to protest apartheid laws and to “recreate themselves”- to contradict and oppose the identity of the occupied imposed on them by the Israeli military and Israeli policies, in the true meaning spoken about by Fanon.
From the start of the demonstration, the military shoot live bullets, wounding two protesters. At a certain point the demonstration was called off and the brave people of Niilin started marching to their houses. At this exact moment the military decided to invaded the fields of Niilin, as if to say “we have not received our weekly amount of blood, please come back”. This call was answered by the retreating youth who battle the soldiers between olive trees and managed to push the military back to their usual position behind the wall.
