CA Gov Schwarzenegger has appointed Safeway Inc. Risk Management VP and the CA Fraud Assessment Commission Chair William Zachry to the board of the State Compensation Insurance Fund Board of Directors which pays $50,000 a year. Zachry has been charged with corruption and fraud by refusing to pay for injured workers at Safeway and shifting them to SSI and other public agencies. Zachry has also personally helped cover-up the failure of California District Attorney's from prosecuting insurance companies for fraud and terrorism against injured California workers CA Gov. Since 2008, Zachry has been vice president of risk management for Safeway, where he also served as vice president of corporate workers’ compensation from 2001 to 2008. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president and chief operations officer for StellerNet from 2000 to 2001. Zachry was vice president of claims for the Zenith Insurance Company from 1998 to 2000, C.E. Heath Insurance from 1987 to 1998 and Western Employer Insurance from 1985 to 1987. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $50,000. Zachry is a Republican. Steve Poizner, who is the California Insurance Commissioner has also personally been presented with evidence of fraud by insurance companies and employers and has also refused to prosecute.
