Earth First Nonviolent Civil Disobedience Training for Int'l Day of Action for Climate, 11/07/09
In the lead-up to the N30 International Day of Action for Climate Justice, several trainings and planning meetings have been held and more are scheduled. On November 1st, there was a planning spokescouncil meeting in San Francisco. On November 7th, Earth First held a direct action skillshare at the Lake Merritt gazebo in Oakland. Several dozen people attended the skillshare on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the lake.
Trainings included non-violent direct action training, making and using lockboxes, climbing with ropes, know your rights, self-defense, urban permaculture, street medic skills, and wheat pasting. Free vegan food was provided for everyone who attended. In the evening, a "Live-free-as-the-world-burns-cabaret" was held at Mama Buzz on Telegraph with several bands including the Brass Liberation Orchestra.
On Monday, November 16th, there will be a follow-up spokescouncil meeting from 6-8pm at the offices of Communities for a Better Environment at 1440 Broadway, Suite 701, in Oakland.
On Saturday, November 20th, at Station 40 at 3030b 16th Street in San Francisco, there will be another non-violent civil disobedience training, a teach-in, and a spokescouncil meeting from 1pm to 6pm.
On November 30th, the 10-year anniversary of activists shutting down the WTO in Seattle, Act for Climate Justice is calling for mass nonviolent civil disobedience and protest to help prevent climate catastrophe.
