The young activists in IMPACT! (based in Petaluma, CA) have a busy 9 days ahead of them. Here is a run-down of activities that IMPACT! is either supporting, attending, or organizing in the next week or so. We at IMPACT! urge everyone to to take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities to participate in and support local movements for justice this week as we meet, organize, plot, educate, celebrate, listen, and take action! Here is a list of activities, events, and actions that IMPACT! is either supporting, attending, or organizing in the next 9 days. If you live in Petaluma, let us know if you need a ride to Santa Rosa events. Tuesday, Nov. 10th Meeting for the Committee for Immigrants' Rights of Sonoma County (CIRSC). Come hear about local campaigns against racial profiling as well as a new effort to stop the impounding of immigrant peoples' cars. (Last week over 200 marched in Santa Rosa for this campaign). 6-8pm St. Rose Church 398 10th St, Santa Rosa Wednesday, Nov. 11th IMPACT! meeting. Open to all. Hear about and participate in our efforts to stop police brutality, build community and youth leadership, and projects such as Food Not Bombs and grassroots fundraising for the Phoenix Theater. 7pm Peets' Coffee, downtown Petaluma. Friday, Nov 13th. 8pm-midnight CopWatch patrol. Find out if this Friday the 13th will be unlucky for us, or for crooked cops. (hint* if you show up, I promise it will be the latter). Saturday, Nov. 14th Food Not Bombs serving. 11am. Howard and Washington St. in Petaluma (*should speak Spanish if you want to volunteer) Saturday, Nov. 14th. 4:30 pm 25th Anniversary of the Peace and Justice Center Celebrate the rich history of local peace activists, and hear Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin speak. $35 with reservation. $40 at the door. There will be dinner, drinks, music, and a silent auction. "Strategies for Anti-Racist Organizing" Forum Humanist Hall, 390 27th St in Oakland Panel discussion organized by Catalyst Project (http://www.collectiveliberation.org) with Linda Burnham longtime leader for racial, gender, and economic justice, Dawn Phillips of Just Cause Oakland, Alicia Garza of People Organized to Win Employment Rights (POWER), Carla Wallace of the Fairness Campaign and Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression. Discussing strategies for grounding anti-racist struggles in long-term movements for justice. They will share how to fit our big picture visions into practical strategies for combating injustice and building a new world. Monday, Nov. 16th and Tuesday the 17th. 1:30pm. Court solidarity. Join us in showing up to support Raymond Burt, a 15 year-old black youth, who has been repeatedly targeted, detained, harassed, and arrested by Santa Rosa Police, and who is on trial after having his families' house raided illegally and violently last month. We need a strong show of support at his court hearing to show the judge and the SRPD that racial profiling, illegal searches, and violence, will be met with organized resistance. Tracy, Raymond's mother, is asking for our support. Please come out on the 16th and the 17th. Tuesday, Nov. 17th. 7pm PACH (Police Accountability Clinic and Helpline) meeting. 719 Orchard St. Come get involved with this important organization. check out http://www.pachline.org for more info. call 707-542-7224 to report police abuse. Tuesday night- METEOR SHOWER! Come hang out with folks from IMPACT! and check out big rocks falling through the sky. time TBA Wednsday, Nov. 18th, 6pm Challenging White Supremacy workshop Peace and Justice Center- 467 Sebastopol Ave., Santa Rosa This will be a participatory workshop primarily for white people working for social change. We will be discussing the history of white supremacy, how white privilege affects our social movements and sustains unjust institutions, and how we as white people can combat white supremacy and build strong multi-racial movements in our community. We will also hear about the important and exciting work of Catalyst Project, a center for political education and movement building, based in San Francisco.
