Sign petition for net neutrality

by repost by Mara
A petition for net neutrality from Common Cause, goal: many signatures in favor of the Internet Freedom Preservation Act! (H.R. 3458)
commongroundemailhdr.jpg
There's no doubt that the Internet has grown to be a powerful force for free speech, democratic participation and economic innovation.
But that growth may not continue unless Congress takes steps now to protect "net neutrality" – the principle that keeps the Internet free and open.

Will you join with me and 1.6 million other Americans in speaking out for net neutrality? Net neutrality legislation will keep the Internet free from blocking, censorship and discrimination by phone and cable companies.
Ask your member of Congress to support the Internet Freedom Preservation Act!

Companies like AT+T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which websites go fast or slow, and which won't load at all.
And they're spending big bucks to get their way. The phone and cable companies have already spent more than $50 million to deploy an army of more than 500 lobbyists in Washington. They'd like to kill net neutrality once and for all.

That's why we need to send a strong and clear message that online discrimination will not be tolerated.

Don't let corporate giants dominate the debate over the future of the Internet: Make your voice heard today!
Urge Congress to protect an open, innovative and competitive Internet by passing the Internet Freedom Preservation Act! (H.R. 3458)

Thanks for all you do.
Sincerely, Bob Edgar
President, Common Cause

oops - The button and other links to sign this petition don't work, so try this link:

It's from this thank you message they sent me:

Thank you for taking action on net neutrality. Here are a few more ways you can help:

1. Tell your friends to join the fight for net neutrality. Already, 1.6 million people have spoken out for Internet freedom. Working with our friends in the Save The Internet coalition, we believe we can get to 2 MILLION. Forward this link to everyone you know: http://www.commoncause.org/2MillionForNetNeutrality

2. Help us fight against corporate Astroturf. In 2006, Common Cause unmasked several front groups paid for by telecommunications giants like AT+T, Comcast and Verizon. (See our report at http://www.commoncause.org/astroturfreport) New corporate-backed campaigns will likely be launched as net neutrality gains momentum. Donate to help us fight back!

3. Do you – or do you want to – use the Internet to share your talents as a writer, citizen journalist, entrepreneur, photographer, activist, podcaster, musician, social networker or filmmaker? Then you need "Be The Media."

This 536-page book can teach you how to successfully implement sustainable business models in almost every media field. And when you buy your copy today, Be the Media will donate 20% of the purchase price to Common Cause. It's win-win!
