The Steel Strings and Break Beats Tour 2009 with Evan Greer and Broadcast Live are coming to the Bay Area on October 29th, 2009, at the famed La Pena Cultural Center. The committed musicians of Steel Strings and Break Beats resist genre and fight for inspiring music by fusing the social justice roots of Hip Hop, the DIY ethics of Punk Rock, and the soapbox troubadour tradition of folk music. Hailing from New York, Broadcast Live (myspace.com/broadcastllive) is a Political Hip Hop Group, touring with their latest album, Boomerang Metropolis, which reached #25 on the CMJ Hip Hop Charts. Evan Greer (myspace.com/evangreer) is a singer/songwriter based in Boston, MA and a member of the well known Riot-Folk Collective. He writes and performs high energy acoustic songs that inspire hope, build community, and incite resistance. Also performing will be midwest to Bay Area TRANS-plant, Adhamh Roland (http://www.riotfolk.org). Adhamh is a founding member of the Riot Folk collective and a Bay Area student and activist. The evening will also feature the up and coming Bay Area based Electro Funk Band: Elle Niño. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to POWER (People Organized to Win Employment Rights) which works to build the collective strength of working class communities of color.
