STOP! Suicide.
STOP suicide is not the answer.
STOP!
Suicide ain’t the answer.
Within the past 4 months three teenagers committed suicide at one intersection in Palo Alto, California. The intersection consists of three different streets and a Caltrain commuter train crossing. Its just another intersection in California, except it seems to attract suicidal teens. And although officials have said they don’t want the suicides glorified, someone needs to stand up and ask them to make improvements.
This is what I noticed:
The approach to the intersection is overwhelming and scary, and the signs that say the tracks are active are small and in English only.
The signs are small, and when I arrived a police officer had to physically stand up a sign because it kept falling down.
The train goes by literally at 70 miles per hour, and does not slow down even though stations in that area are less than a mile apart.
There was a police presence at the intersection today, but that cannot possible be sustainable.
And no phones existed in the area around the intersection, and Caltrains website has no suicide information available on it.
More information on suicide hotlines can be found at suicidehotline.comand the number is 1 800 784-2433.
