Tibetan women organizes a "Thanksgiving" lunch for India and it's people
Dharamsala: The Tibetan Women's Association has organized a ‘Thanksgiving lunch' function on 14 August__ the eve of India's 62nd independence day at Central Tibetan Administration, in honor of India's indomitable support to the Tibetan people and His Holiness the Dalai Lama for last 50 years. Around 50 Indian guests including journalists, officers and representatives from various offices and societies in Kangra District were invited.
Among the dignitaries and guests were Tibetan prime minister, Prof Samdhong Rinpoche, deputy speaker of Tibetan Parliament in exile, Ms Dolma Gyari, President of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society Mr. Ajay Singh Mangotia, well-known Indian lawyer, Mr. Rakesh Narayan, Tibetan Welfare officer Mr Tsering Phuntsok and other important people from the Indian district. Around 15 Tibetan Journalists from various exile news-agencies have also joined the event.
The Tibetan prime minister, Prof Samdhong Rinpoche has thanked the Indian government and it's people for their genuine hospitality of last 50 years for Tibetans in exile. He has also empasized Indian communities in Dharamsala for providing an important home for Tibetan refugees. "I never felt that I am not living my home for last fifty years, but I always feel, I am far away from home___ wanted to return when I was visiting US and European countries."
The prime minister also praised the great efforts of Tibetan Women Association in thanking India and appreciated the presence of young members at the Central Tibetan Women Association.
TWA's president Kirti Dolkar Lhamo has detailed the importance of the special events at the eve of India's 62nd independence day and she said her regional chapters are also initiating similar events in other areas to thank the Indian community for their greater supports.
"We thank India for nurturing us and for its ingenuity in times of our adversity. We also thank India for being the most humane country. We trust that this virtuous nation will always see a prolific sense of success and eminence." The TWA issued statement said.
The Tibetan Women's Association (TWA) was originally founded on 12 march 1959 in Tibet. On this day, thousands of Tibetan women in Lhasa gathered together to protest against the illegal occupation of Tibet by Chinese Communist regime. Protesting peacefully in Lhasa, the Tibetan capital, thousands of these women suffered brutally at the hands of the armed Chinese military, that includes arresting, imprisonments, torture and beating without trial.
Today, in exile, Tibetan Women Association places great priority on the contributions of Tibetan women towards the preservation and promotion of the distinct religion, culture and identity of the Tibetan people. TWA plays a great role with activities addressing religious and cultural issues, educational needs, social welfare, the environment and the political participation and social empowerment of women. TWA is the second largest NGO in exile Tibetan community with thousands members from more than 45 reginal chapters abroad.
