Doug Loisel, the new Executive Director of the Homeless Services Center, will discuss the shrinking budget, increasing restrictions, and current dimensions of the Homeless Services Center--the city's only emergency shelter program which apparently is completely full (though you can sign up for a waiting list). The prior Executive Director, Ken Cole, refused to be interviewed, much less appear in person at Free Radio Santa Cruz to discuss issues with the community, at least on this show. (Cole now has a more lucrative position at County Housing Authority). Loisel has candidly taken responsibility for suggesting to City Council that homeless parking on Coral St. be restricted to two hours a day and also has spoken openly about the budget crisis in Homeless Services. Though he lives out of town, Loisel has so far been quite accessible and has also gone to "where the action is" (the Calvary Episcopal Church Monday Coffeehouse--currently under attack by conservative residents and parrishmembers). He may stay in the studio longer if there are enough call-in's.
