Los Angeles City Council Schedules Medical Marijuana Hardship Hearing for This Wednesday

by Brett Stone (brettthenewsguy [at] brettstone.com)
The Los Angeles City Council has scheduled one medical marijuana hardship exemption hearing for next Wednesday's session (June 17, 2009). Council will hear the application of Cahuenga Caregivers Inc, dba Bulldog Cafe (see item #9 in attached city council agenda) a medical marijuana collective on Melrose Avenue. What makes this hearing worth watching is that Cahuenga Caregivers was one of the original 187 medical marijuana collectives that registered under the Los Angeles ICO prior to November 13, 2007 but they were forced to relocate when their landlord received a letter from the DEA and evicted them.

June 14, 2009

The Los Angeles City Council has scheduled one medical marijuana hardship exemption hearing for next Wednesday's session (June 17, 2009). This coming after last weeks hearings in which all 14 medical marijuana hardship exemption applications heard by council were denied.

Council will hear the application of Cahuenga Caregivers Inc, dba Bulldog Cafe (see item #9 in attached city council agenda) a medical marijuana collective on Melrose Avenue. Previously the city Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee denied the hardship exemption application for Cahuenga Caregivers Inc dba Bulldog Cafe and has sent a recommendation to council to do the same.

What makes this hearing worth watching is that Cahuenga Caregivers was one of the original 187 medical marijuana collectives that registered under the Los Angeles ICO prior to November 13, 2007 but they were forced to relocate when their landlord received a letter from the DEA and evicted them.

Approximately 50 of the original 187 registered medical marijuana collectives here in Los Angeles have moved from their original location that they filed with the city so this hearing has significant implications for many others besides the operators of Cahuenga Caregivers Inc, dba Bulldog Cafe.

The city council meeting begins at 10:00 AM on Wednesday June 17, 2009 and can be viewed live online at http://lacity.org/lacity/YourGovernment/CityCouncil/CouncilMeetings/LIVEandON-DEMANDVideo/index.htm

Advocates and patients will be out in full force for this hearing before the Los Angeles City Council this Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 10:00 AM as the future landscape for medical marijuana collectives (medical marijuana dispensaries) in Los Angeles is going to be debated.
