Santa Cruz Indymedia | Global Justice and Anti-Capitalism | Health, Housing, and Public ServicesReward Businesses That Support an End to the Anti-Homeless Laws
Everyone needs to sleep at night, homeless people perhaps more than anyone. Santa Cruz has harsh laws that criminalize homeless sleeping on public property, making it illegal to sleep on any public property between 11 PM and 8:30 AM. Reward businesses that support an end to these draconian laws! Judge Paul Burdick has ruled that a homeless couple, Anna Richardson and Miguel
DeLeon, [also known as “Lito”] deserve to be enjoined from sleeping at night in the downtown area... We are encouraging tourists, shoppers, and residents to spend their money at businesses that do not discriminate and do not support discriminatory laws.
We PLEDGE to give special attention and acknowledgment to those businesses that support a restoration of basic human rights for the homeless community. We will ask them to display in their store a brief statement to that effect.
Print a copy of this Plege, get it filled up with signatures, and then contact HUFF at 423-HUFF (423-4833) , or email us at rnorse3 [at] hotmail.com. |
