Point Sal state park indefinitely closed due to Osama bin Laden audio tape
Vandenberg Air Force Base beefed up security today, including banning outdoor recreational activity on most of the installation and barring access to Point Sal State Beach.
The security boost was implemented due to guidance from the Department of Defense, according to 30th Space Wing officials.

The measures come as Osama bin Laden released an audio recording threatening Americans.
The higher security will be in place for an indefinite period of time, military officials said.
Most of the security practices will be unobtrusive and not disruptive for surrounding communities or for civilians who work on base, officials said.
However, among increased security measures, officials have suspended outdoor recreational activities outside the main section of the base or “cantonment” area.
They also closed access to Point Sal Beach via Brown Road. While the beach is a state property, access from Brown Road involves crossing a chunk of Vandenberg’s northern tip.

Vandenberg public affairs representatives said they will notify the public when the security level changes.
