Israeli soldiers attack activists and Palestinians in Safa, West Bank, part 1
On Saturday May 30, members of Anarchists Against the Wall, international and Palestinian activists, came to help farmers in Safa, West Bank, to work their lands. In the recent year farmers has been under a constant harassment by settlers who have been violently attacking them and destroying and stealing their crops.
The morning starts and we walk with the farmers to the fields.
Hamad Soleiloy (man)and Ghabiha ahmad. they been working on this land al their lives.
we get to the field, the point is to distinguish between different kind of leaves and collect the good ones. They are used as small plates where food (usually rice) is put in them. the grape leaves are put in basket and will be taken latter to be sold in a near by market.
a couple of years ago settlers were trying to take over the land, Hamad Soleiloy came up with papers from some 150 years ago proving the ownership of his family.
After a couple of hours soldiers and civilian police start walking towards us
they show us a military order that is declaring this area a "close military zone" for the day. They say that we are provoking the settlers by working the field.
on the heal looking down on us we hear the settlers yell "death to the Arabs"
the activists refuse to leave and show a decision by the Israeli Supreme Court that does not allow the military to declare a "close military zone" constantly on farm land. This is the sevens week that this area is declared a close military zone. this decision, however, does not impress the suldiers who give us 10 minutes to clear the area.
when the time is over they start attacking and arresting people.
