Nathaniel Ford MUNI's director has failed to serve the constituents of San Francisco. He makes over $315,000 per year and lacks basic leadership. For years now he has been pandering to Mayor Gavin Newsom and other vested interests. He is diverting MUNI funds towards the 311 system, the failed SF Police Department linked to Safety on MUNI buses. Paying for the Mayor's favorite fake eco-shick positions - that have nothing to do with transportation and letting down MUNI's primary mission.
It all started when Michael Burns the former MUNI director decided to up his salary to over $300,000. He did this by consolidating MUNI and the Department of Parking and Traffic to give himself a large count of employees and Managers.
As soon as Michael Burns got what he wanted - he left MUNI to seek fresher pastures and hopefully he is NOT screwing the folks where he now - works.
In comes Nathaniel Ford and some of us thought at last we would witness some changes. But, to be very sincerely the sleek, cunning, devious Nathaniel Ford is the worst MUNI director we have seen in recent history.
Nathaniel Ford according to Supervisor Bevan Dufty deserves to paid what he is paid - because he manages a Transportation System that is so diverse and large. Of course Supervisor Bevan Dufty is free to stick to his subjective opinion. However, Nathaniel Ford is in charge of a system - that in all the time Nathaniel Ford has been in office - has been going to the dogs - if not the hogs.
The $700 million Third Street Light rail is a utter failure. It ends in the middle of no where in the Visitation Valley and I do not know how this City and County of San Francisco can justify spending so much money - on the the ever failing Third Street Light Rail System.
In all the time Director Nathaniel Ford has been in office this system lacks a state of the art soft ware system. There have been many accidents. The schedule of the Third Street Light Rail has been the worse. Often we have to wait for over forty minutes for a train to arrive.
The other Light Rail Street lines J,M,N,L, and so on are run on an antiquated software system. I go do into detail but it would compromise Safety and bring into light certain guide-lines under Home Land Security.
Add to this the dirty condition of the Third Street Light Rail cars - full of filth, graffiti, - far from encouraging anyone to board these cars - it makes one puke.
Imagine entering a car, moving to another - and then finding out all the cars stink to high heaven. Imagine existing and then taking a cab or just walking if the destination is not too far. Many decent people will not reveal this - but often the Light Rail cars stink so bad. This is health and safety issues - that Nathaniel Ford seems not to care about.
Once, we had the perfectly running 15 Third MUNI bus and it took you to your destination. Now, you have to hop from the Third Street Light Rail and catch two if not three buses to get to your destination.
Nathaniel Ford has been pandering to Mayor Gavin Newsom and diverting millions of dollars to the 311 system that really does not do justice to MUNI. Often times one calls the 311 system thinking you will get a prompt answer - but you have to wait and wait. Now, imagine all those minutes wasted if you call from your cell phone?
The public at large wants to know how much of MUNI money has been diverted to the 311 system? The public at large wants to know who made the decision for MUNI to waste so much money on these so called "work orders"?
Under Nathaniel Ford many of the rude Ticket Inspectors began to prop up - here, there and everywhere. We now find out that they earned millions of dollars in salaries in toto. But, these good for nothing Tickets Inspectors - brought in only a fraction of the money they were supposed to bring in return. The public at large would like to have the figures on the http://www.sfmta.com website. Perhaps the diatribe talking, hot air spewing Supervisor Bevan Dufty could facilitate this in keeping with Accountability and Transparency. Also, as Chair of the SF City and County Transportation Commission.
Under Nathaniel Ford he has brought in and hired his choice, corrupt - lackeys and cronies. Many of them make over $200,000 in salaries plus benefits. He himself makes over $350,000 when you take into account benefits and perks. Most of these inept so called MUNI employees should have their salaries trimmed by forty percent until we resolve the present Economic Crisis.
Under Nathaniel Ford just to show you how inept he is - some months ago while we were discussing the budget cuts and the State of California cutting the money that would go into Operations linked to San Francisco's MUNI. Nathaniel Ford and his lackeys decided to initiate and waste money on some buses under the esteemed fake title of "Culture Buses".
The so called Culture Bus tour was a totally failure and MUNI wasted thousands if not millions. This was not so long ago and points to the ineptness and lack of sound leadership of Director Nathaniel Ford. What the hell was this man thinking? I would like to hear in writing about his thought linked to the failed Culture Bus Tour - and the woman that spear headed this stupid idea.
Now, I want to know why would anyone warrant a high salary of over $315,000 plus benefits and be allowed to stay in his position here in San Francisco. Well, I will tell you why? Because of idiots like Supervisor Bevan Dufty who presupposes that constituents of San Francisco do not know about Transportation issues - and he thinks he does - a transplant from Los Angeles.
Well, I could point out over forty pertinent issues with facts that Nathaniel Ford has failed. Of course Supervisor Bevan Dufty who is a sell out and hopefully will be termed out soon - can have his sordid subjective opinion about MUNI and Nathaniel Ford - but he better not defend some one that is incompetent and an utter failure and has failed the constituents of San Francisco and especially the Seniors and Physically Challenged.
The recent changes made to the MUNI budget with some of those Supervisors that pander to Mayor Gavin Newsom is a slap in the face of all things decent and transparent.
Supervisors Ross Mirkarimi and David Campos have made it clear what they think about it. But, the other Supervisors that seem to think a total rejection of this superficial and unfair budget is fine - more to go with the flow - will have to deal with the public at large - in the future.
MUNI buses are filthy and a disgrace to get into and more to ride - ever since Nathaniel Ford has come on the scene.
MUNI buses often will not pick passengers in wheel chairs. Often times some one in a wheel chair has to wait for two or three buses to pass by and then be picked up. I have stood by these wheel chair passengers so that I can testify - when the time times.
The Federal Government should investigate MUNI and if MUNI does not follow the law that allows MUNI to receive millions under the Americans with Disabilities Act - then MUNI must be adjudicated and if need be - funds stopped but more the Federal Government must charge and penalize Nathniel Ford and his failed administration.
Under Nathaniel Ford the MUNI Maintenance Facility on Illinois Street was built on land that was not mitigated. The former land on which the MUNI Maintenance Facility was built was called Toxic Park. Where is the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) linked to this site?
Under Nathaniel Ford over 100,000 gallons of diesel polluted the watershed from one of the MUNI Sheds by 3rd Street and 18th Street. Much of the polluting diesel went into the Bay. MUNI failed to find out about this leak and learned of it - because of another Enterprise City Agency. Of course Supervisor Bevan Dufty the queen that he is - would not be able to figure this out.
When anyone makes the type of money the Director of MUNI makes they better be capable of running a system and be in charge of everything at all levels.
Bevan Dufty has been spewing hot air for too long - but, as I said when his term ends he better leave San Francisco for good.
He could tag along with Nancy Pelosi who recently faulted the CIA. Or join ranks with the Mother of Water Boarding - Diane Feinstein - another person who is a disgrace to the human race.
It is pathetic to see some so called Supervisors going with the flow and allowing MUNI to increase bus fares and MUNI fast passes for a job that does not merit a failed grade. You cannot grade MUNI a F minus because that would be doing injustice to that measly failed grade level.
I take Public Transportation and know what I am talking about. I have monitored MUNI for well over 35 years and know what it used to be and what it has become.
Bevan Dufty is a joke - most people know that - he cannot speak to the point - and when he begins - the queen can go on and on and on.
