Hey Indybay comrades,

An anonymous post attributing an illegal action, with what reads like a bad attempt at anarchist rhetoric, to a longtime community activist/writer can have a very disruptive Cointelpro-type effect of bringing heat and confusion on folks who already risk a lot by speaking truth to power. Whoever posted it did not have the interests of movement building and truth going on. Please be principled and remove and whoever posted it can repost without linking it to someone who had nothing to do with it! Thanks in advance.

It's like Jodie Foster's Army. No on ever thought she was in that army, or that it was even an actual army, but it was named in honor of her.

Besides, while it is obviously a dig at Becky here, the use of her name is humorous and therefore all of those calling out laws on this are overreacting.

The Sentinel website features trolls who delight in these kind of personal attacks on Becky Johnson and me instead of addressing real civil rights for the poor issues. Most indybay readers and posters (myself included) strongly disagree with Becky's views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But letting trolls divert and discredit Becky directly or waste all our time by drawing her into confrontations with indybay for allowing this to happen.

I've posted elsewhere (http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2006/10/20/18322014.php ) that I believe indybay should revive hidden comments. That way, trolls can growl on if they want without being able to scream "censorship", but not require the rest of us to wade through their bile and bullshit.

While it's unlikely the FBI or other authorities will hold Becky responsible for the main post here--or that it would have any legal significance if they did--it encourages divisiveness between activists that diverts us from those issues we do agree on: local civil rights for the poor, for one.

True, it's a dig at Becky which some posters understand, but others, not knowing her, may either take it seriously and be misled. I think this is unwise and unhelpful. And doesn't enlighten anybodhy on the MacDonald's issue either.

Obviously I also have sympathy for Becky as a friend of hers. I think it's probably clear from the commentary here that the post above isn't Becky's post.

The only thing wrong with using Becky Johnson's name here is that people who don't know what she is might think she deserves the honor.

Zionist fanatic Becky Johnson no more deserves to be treated with respect as a "community activist", or even ordinary decency, than would an up-front supporter of the Ku Klux Klan or the American Nazi Party. Actually, she deserves less respect, since the ZioNazi vermin she supports are killing people by the thousands and stealing more and more of their land while keeping them in virtual concentration camps, while violence by the KKK and Nazis in recent years has been relatively minimal.

I do not believe we can judge whether or not somebody whom we are not even acquianted with "gets hurt". Real people lose their jobs for less slander than this. It seems this is a chance for any real anarchists to offer their support to some overworked and exploited and, it appears, racially-discriminated-against (as a general policy) workers who are across the Santa Cruz-Monterey Counties.

What's with the blood-spilling, glass-shattering, abusive-naming rhetoric about overseas cultures, while hunger and urgent medical needs destroy whole families right here where we live? (I happen to know Becky Johnson is NOT one who fits this "characterization" I'm questioning.) What else can we do besides use flamish words?

This "humor" was meant to hurt, it is as plain as anything in words can be, regardless of what else may be said about it. Is Indybay becoming like the Sentinel blog -- infested with two-legged vermin? Or just regular American bigots? Indybay can offer more substance.

Maybe it is true that anarchists and their wanna-be cousins talk like this "Cell's" statement above, but the REAL anarchists I've met don't waste time talking to those who aren't listening anyway. (well, except for one. . .)

Maybe it's not about capitalists vs anarchists, nor about fascists vs victims, nor even about the uselessness, waste and delusional systems (ie - that McDonalds will be in any way put out by broken glass windows created in secret). Maybe these seemingly never-ending attempts to abuse and insult each other is about broken children who don't know how to grow up any better way than this? (Try working -- and I don't particularly mean jobs. Wash more dishes by hand, visit institutionalized folks, etc)

I DO know Becky Johnson; still I do not understand at all what's *humorous* about this behavior. ??? If she were to somehow get into any legal trouble down the road because of this crap, her real life's activities would stand to utterly shatter this abuse of her civil rights in the halls of "Justice" (give or take patterns such as class, favoritism, overworked "judges"and access to legal support). But most of the violence we hurl against our neighbors happens outside those halls.

People are naturally seeking "safe" levels of conflict all the time, it's part of being both mammalian and human. But there are useful, helpful, caring ways to "change the world" and keep ourselves enlivened, too.

If you would stop or curb Johnson's words, are you prepared to have the same happen to you? Because history shows fascism spreads like viruses do. What is the intended purpose of this mean-spiritedness besides indulging your own bigotry instead of learning about it?

Why are these people afraid to use their names when they are tearing down strangers -- is it because they are afraid somebody like themselves might look them in the eyes?

Please forgive my impatience: people can be so ugly. It interrupts my continuing attempts to be learning to use the internet and web and I am resenting it instead of crying for you all. I'll admit to having a sometimes-impaired sense of humor. In this, however, most folks would agree it is mean.

Most likely the mockery of Becky Johnson was in response to her comments following the last action that occurred at McDonald's, in which two surveillance cameras were stolen (and never replaced).

This is a stupid action. McDonald's is not "spying" on its customers. It is simply responsible for policing what occurs on its property. Surveillance tapes are also used as evidence when a crime occurs on their property.

McDonald's can reasonably held accountable for paying low wages, serving unhealthy food, for burning down the rain forest, and for discrimination against homeless people using their facilities, but for HAVING working surveillance cameras? No.

Burglars STOLE property and caused DAMAGE. There is no moral high ground here. Their insurance will pay for it. The costs will be passed on to customers.






This sense of humor has been seen in anti-2010 actions before, notably when the "Tom Quiggin Group" claimed the smashing of a Royal Bank of Canada in Vancouver. Tom Quiggin is an Israeli "counter-terrorism expert" who analyzed the resistance to the 2010 Olympics as an "unmanageable" and potentially "terrorist" threat to capitalism and colonialism (specifically through the lens of Zionism).

On the night of May 12/13, we smashed at the RBC on Broadway and Yukon. One more contribution to the increasingly “unmanageable” anti-olympics resistance, Tom Quiggin, this one’s for you.

For those of you who don’t get the above reference we are referring to the recent security document [published] by Tom Quiggin (http://friendsofgrassynarrows.com/item.php?802F). In this document he warns that the small actions that have been multiplying over the last year amount to a potential new terrorist threat.

We believe that this small amount of revolt can become a threat to the 2010 corporate agenda. Not because of the actions in themselves but because for every one of us who picks up a match or a stone, there are many more with just as much contempt for this world of profits and prisons, who are just as eager as we are to escape from the graveyard of submission.

In the document Quiggin makes special note of the reference to individuals such as the heads of Bell & RBC in the communications of other recent actions. He hints that this is a sign that we and our allies are developing terrorist tactics. Tom, you bastard, you and all of the other pigs of this world cooperate in terrorizing us every day of the week. Doing your best to keep us down while your system and all those who profit from it continue sucking us dry, spewing poisons into the precious earth, commit genocide of traditional indigenous people and attacking anyone who struggles to live outside and against your established order.

Their forces of repression are very strong, but our passion for freedom is much stronger.

Anyone, love her or hate her could possibly think this is Becky's post. It doesn't follow her writing style in anyway nor is in the realm of her her political passions.
