Vigil and Rally for Lavelle Mixon and Family
Date Wednesday March 25
Time 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location Details
7911 Macarthur Blvd. (at 79th), Oakland
Event Type Vigil/Ritual
Don't let the police and corporate media continue to depict Lavelle as subhuman.

If the police and white/black/brown bourgeoisie were serious about "healing the community" they would include Mixon in there pleas, not just recite the names of the police officers.

The media has been reporting all kinds of unconfirmed allegations about Lavelle--details the public is in no position to prove or disprove--relying solely on police reports. The corporate media has not corroborated police reports before disseminating them. The media needs to also report on the police officers' histories, specifically on how many officer-involved shootings they were a part of.

For example, we know already that Sergeant Pat Gonzales, the fifth police officer shot but not seriously injured by Mixon, fired and killed Gary King Jr. (age 20), Joshua Russell (age 19), and made a quadriplegic of Ameir Rollins (age 17). How many officer-involved shootings had the now deceased officers been engaged in? Importantly, all of the officers resided in Bay Area suburbs, not in Oakland. Why has this important context that would shed light on not only the Mixon situation, but the broader tensions with OPD, not been explicitly reported?

I read the description of the event and cant help but choke back that bile that rises in the back of my throat. Attempting to make a martyr out of someone who is accused of raping a 12 year old girl, and thought to have raped others. It sickens me that a man no, scumbag, who killed 4 police officers sworn to protect and serve the public is being used to strike up a social movement. You are using the wrong medium for your message. This scumbag is a criminal who left four families without a father, and stole from his rape victims their freedom to walk the earth unafraid.

When people start attacking the police they are attacking the very fabric of our society. The police are the gate keepers who keep the evil at bay.

This scum is no martyr. This scum is not a decent and kind human being. He is a killer and a rapist. Let us not forget the facts.

...that Lavelle didn't get in jail before he could shoot those people. I'm very sorry that he didn't learn, in time, that his grim actions will have grim consequences for him, too.
Facts? He was on parole, thus he wasn't allowed to touch any gun. And no matter what other people did: he broke the law. He knew what can happen to him before he shot anybody.
It was his decision. A very bad one...
I'm very sorry, but something's wrong with the people who advertise this "vigil".
Find a better game. Something constructive.
