EIGHT ORGANZERS FACE CONSPIRACY CHARGES FOLLOWING THE 2008 REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION: Two of the RNC 8 will be in Olympia, Portland and San Francisco next week.

Eight organizers, called the RNC 8, face conspiracy charges as part of the state repression surrounding the Republican National Convention that took place in St. Paul, MN in 2008. The RNC 8 are Luce Guillen Givins, Max Specktor, Nathanael Secor, Eryn Trimmer, Monica Bicking, Erik Oseland, Robert Czernik and Garrett Fitzgerald. All were preemptively arrested prior to the RNC and have been falsely charged with four counts: Count 1 - conspiracy to riot in the second degree in furtherance of terrorism, Count 2 - conspiracy to riot in the second degree, Count 3 - conspiracy to damage property in furtherance of terrorism, Count 4 - conspiracy to damage property.

Two of the eight members, Max Specktor and Rob Czernik will be touring the west coast, speaking at Evergreen and Reed College as well as the San Francisco Book Fair. They will be on the west coast from March 9-16th and available for comment and/or interview. The details of their appearances are as follows.

Monday, March 9 - Evergreen College, Building E, Room 1105, 5:30PM, Free and open to the public

Tuesday, March 10 - Reed College, Presentation and David Rovics, Eliot Hall Chapel, 3203 SE Woodstock Blvd, 5-7PM, Free and open to the public.

Wednesday, March 11th - Red and Black Cafe, Portland, OR - 6PM followed by music by the Dapper Cadavers and Steve Arceri. 400 SE 12th Ave, Donations taken at the door.

Saturday March 14 1pm at the San Fransisco Anarchist Bookfair Cafe

"The importance of this case is unprecedented." says Brian Hokanson, friend and supporter of the RNC 8. "For one, four informants, state and federal, were used to gather and potentially provoke evidence now being seen by the defense. For two, the word terrorist is being used to describe the organizing of civil disobedience and direct action. And finally, this is the first time the 2002 Minnesota Patriot Act is being used - a piece of legislation that was passed post 9-11 and slipped in as an addendum to another bill."

Now these 8 individuals face the possibility of seven years in prison and currently, are inundated with legal fees. Over 800 people were arrested during the RNC, including journalists, medics, legal observers, activists, and bystanders. Many continue to contest the circumstances and justice of their arrests. Unless charges are dropped the RNC 8 trial is expected to begin in September.
