Spring Into Action!- Apri,l 1st-May 1st- Sonoma County, CA

IMPACT! is proud to announce its first-ever “Spring Into Action!” campaign, which will take place from April 1st to May 1st. We would like to invite all of our brothers and sisters around the Bay to come check out what we’re up to all the way up here in Sonoma County and hopefully come away inspired. The goals of Spring Into Action! are to build our movement, expand our organization, strengthen our various projects and cultivate a radical consciousness in our community. We plan to do this through a wide variety of public activities and events throughout the month. In Petaluma, IMPACT! has a whole program lined up for the month which looks a little something like this:

o Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: Canvass our neighborhoods with petitions for our immigrants’ rights campaign, and surveys for our CopWatch program.

o Tuesdays, 6pm. General IMPACT! meeting and dinner at 1251 Marian Way, Petaluma

o Friday nights- CopWatch patrols and educational outreach/tabling

o Saturday mornings- Food Not Bombs cooking and serving.

In addition to those weekly events, here are some other things planned for the campaign:

o Sunday, April 5th at Noon. Gathering of Community Organizations and Activists at the Peace and Justice Center. For the last few months, several dozen organizations have been gathering to discuss each others projects and look for ways to unite the different movements in our area. This meeting will be dedicated to determining the future of this network of organizations- Will we have a name? What should it be? What is our mission?

o Sunday April 12th- Free movie showing in downtown Petaluma. Movie and location TBA

o Sunday April 19th- Social event downtown- literature tables, free food, live music, and more! (exact time TBA)

o Sunday April 26th- Neighborhood Market, 1251 Marian Way. This will be a cross between a yard sale and a Really Really Free Market, where we invite our community to come and exchange goods for free with their neighbors. We encourage people to bring stuff they don’t need, or anything they made, grew, or dumpster-dived themselves. There will also be food and music. The theme is “Bailing Out the Community.” Exact time TBA

And to end the campaign on a high note, IMPACT! is working with the Committee for Immigrants’ Rights to plan another huge demonstration for May 1st- International Workers Day. The last three years have seen historic marches on this day, and we think this year will be no different.

Tides are shifting. Movements are uniting. The digits in our hand, which have operated in isolation for so long, are coming together to form that clenched fist. From Oakland to New York, from Gaza to Greece, people everywhere are in revolt. Capitalism has been dealt a potentially fatal blow. We have the chance to open new spaces now, where our wildest dreams may be finally realized. In this corner of the world, in the north of California, we will continue down the path that is being paved every day by our brave brothers and sisters everywhere. This April, as the ice melts and flowers spring forth again from the warm ground, we will be springing into action, taking each other by the hands and leaping into a free world.

In Solidarity,

IMPACT!

*IMPACT! is an independent organization of primarily young workers and students. We work for radical social change on a local level. Our main focuses currently are: anti-police brutality, immigrants’ rights struggles, and developing local, community-run media. We are also facilitating the effort to unite all community organizations and activists. We strive to be anti-authoritarian, non-hierarchical, anti-oppressive, and consensus-run.
