Public Access TV in San Francisco Under Threat!
Ten-minute QT movie. 36MB.
San Francisco's public access TV station may close its doors or greatly reduce operations on June 30, 2009 as the result of a $590,000 budget cut. The cut is due to expiration of local cable franchises in San Francisco and the passage of the AT&T inspired state-wide cable franchising law, the Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act (DIVCA) of 2006, which ends local control over cable franchises and the requirement that cable operators provide operations funding for public access.
