MTS Further Cuts Transit System

by Don J
The State of California Legislature's budget passed on February 19, 2009, eliminating the State Transit Assistance fund for the next five years. This eliminated an important funding source and now requires public transit agencies all over the State of California to reduce their budgets.
It seems that our shitty transit system is going to get worse? Wow. After taking that in, I have to ask those who are making the decision at the top if they are taking people into consideration what so ever. Yes it is true there is a large percent of San Diego that does not use the public transit regularly, but to be honest, the fact that it takes over an hour to get across town in the middle of the day does not help that problem. Now to make things worse, those who have to deal with the incompetent public transit system are not going to have it any easier. I've read that up to 75%+ of the transit lines are going to be affected. Less buses running, remapping routes altogether and complete stoppages of some lines. I would suggest the opposite. I can't help thinking about all of the things that we lose by losing our transit system: mobility, jobs, the environment... etc. We the workers need these buses and it is a right. We pay your tax; you (the state) give us services we need. If you fail to do so, you fail to be hold up your end, thus you are no longer needed (as if you were needed before, jeje). I hope that everyone has the time to make it to the Transit public hearing at the MTS headquarters, March 12 @ 9am - 1255 Imperial ave. Here is more info
