Bad Faith Bargaining By PVUSD

by Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers #1936 (pvftcommunicates [at] gmail.com)
Teachers rallied on Friday in support of a fair and honest contract and to educate parents and the community about potential cuts to classroom services. PVFT is against any budget cuts to student services & programs without first analyzing district expenditures at the Management level. In contract Negotiations, PVUSD is not bargaining in good faith and bringing the anticipated & relevant counter-proposals to the table. Please attend the school board meeting on February 25 @ 7PM. PVUSD District Towers Board Room 294 Green Valley Road (old hospital). BBQ at 6PM in the parking lot!

BAD FAITH BARGAINING BY PVUSD

Watsonville, California – The Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 1936 Negotiations Team met on Friday, February 20 with the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Four weeks into negotiations, the district has yet to respond to the proposal submitted by the Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers, which addresses the current contract crisis.

While the district has been trumpeting to the public the extreme urgency of the situation, they continue to delay any progress in these negotiations by engaging in Bad Faith Bargaining. The core of PVFT’s proposal centers around Binding Arbitration to create a foundation for real negotiations during tough times.

Binding arbitration provides for a neutral third party to decide any contract disputes. Every other school district in Santa Cruz County includes Binding Arbitration in their contract except PVUSD.

The Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers represents certificated employees of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, the largest district in Santa Cruz County, which extends from North Monterey County to Aptos in Santa Cruz County.
