Busting Up The SEIU: United Healthcare Workers And the Fight For Union Democracy

Steve Early, a writer for Labor Notes, CounterPunch, The Nation, and other publications, spoke about the struggle for union democracy in SEIU at Centro Del Pueblo in San Francisco on Thursday, February 19, 2009. The forum was sponsored by the Peace and Freedom Party.

Early is the author of a new book from Monthly Review Press entitled "Embedded With Organized Labor: Journalistic Reflections on The Class War at Home." See http://www.monthlyreview.org/mrpress.htm . Early was in Puerto Rico during the 2008 SEIU convention and reported on the successful effort by FMPR, the Puerto Rican teachers union, to defeat
a raid by SEIU on their 40,000-member bargaining unit.
