Cuban Beans and Rice Hurricane Relief Dinner Set for Jan. 23
The Central America Action Committee (CAAC) is hosting a Cuban Beans and Rice Dinner on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Southside Park Co-Housing Common House, 434 T St., Sacramento, to benefit Cuba’s rebuilding efforts after the devastating hurricanes that struck the island last fall. The doors open at 6:30 pm and dinner will be served at 7 pm.
Cuba suffered $5 billion in major damage from Hurricanes Gustav, Ike, and Paloma, with 62,000 homes destroyed and almost 500,000 seriously damaged.
The dinner will include salad and dessert as well as beans and rice. A short video about Cuba will be shown, and we’re hoping to line up some live music. Come join the fun! This should be a great opportunity to socialize, dine, and benefit a good cause all at the same time.
The suggested donation is $10-$30 (more always welcome!). RSVPs will be appreciated so we have some idea how many people to prepare for—you can call CAAC at 916-457-5018 or email caac2 [at] copper.net. Also, volunteers to help with the event, including set up, serving, clean-up and providing desserts, would be appreciated.
