The end of the world is happening in 5 years.
60 Minutes show this week paints a picture of a very dark future, where employers and the government have the ability to read your mind.
In this story, it is shown that it is possible to read someone's thoughts with 100% accuracy, for simple things at least. The person being interviewed claims that within 5 years the technology will be accurate enough and sophisticated enough to decipher complex thoughts such as "I hate hamburgers". The technology already is able to determine if someone has previously viewed a particular location and in one case in India a conviction was obtained based on evidence that a woman who was accused of killing her husband was particularly "familiar with" the chemicals used to kill him. The question of self incrimination is brushed aside as it is claimed that reading your thoughts in reaction to stimuli is like obtaining a DNA sample. No consideration is made of what to do with interpreting brain functions of the mentally ill as these are sure to be different than for normal people.
