Police Shooting in Fruitvale Bart Station Early new Years Morning

by Anonymous
This is copied from the Oakland Tribune website. There seem to be disparities in accounts about whether or not the victim, 22 year old Oscar Grant, was in handcuffs when he was shot. I have seen many articles today, some say there were two shots, others only one. Sound familiar?
A few weeks ago, when a fifteen year old in Greece was shot in shady circumstances by a police officer, the people took the streets for days. Let's mobilize!

OAKLAND — A man died after a BART officer-involved shooting early Thursday at the Fruitvale station, authorities said.
The man was identified by his family and authorities as Oscar Grant, 22.
The shooting occurred about 2:15 a.m. on the platform where a Dublin-Pleasanton train from San Francisco had stopped, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.
He said reports came in about 2 a.m. that two groups of riders were involved in an altercation on the train as it left the West Oakland Station.
Five BART police officers patrolling the Fruitvale station responded to the call when the train pulled into the station. Police separated the arguing parties, removed them from the train and detained them.
During that process, an officer's gun discharged, wounding Grant, authorities said. BART's preliminary investigation indicates that Grant was not handcuffed at the time, authorities said.
Grant was taken to Highland Hospital Oakland, where he died later Thursday morning. His place of residence was not released.
In addition to the BART police investigation, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office will conduct an independent probe, authorities said.
The officer involved in the shooting was not identified. He underwent drug and alcohol testing and has been placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure, BART officials said.
The Fruitvale station was closed until about 2:50 a.m. because of police activity.
BART police are seeking the public's help as they continue to investigate.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 877-679-7000, Ext. 7040.
