"Something Wicked This Way Comes"

by Janet Phelan (one_ibl [at] yaoo.com)
The Dark Carnival comes to America.
“I’m not going to murder you, Jed, Mr. Dark, whoever, whatever you are. You are going to murder yourself because you can’t stand being near people like me, not this close, not this long.”
“Evil!” groaned the boy, writhing. “You’re evil!”
“Evil?” Will’s father laughed, which made the boy, wasp-stung and brambled by the sound, jerk all the more violently…”Strange hearing that from you, Jed. So it must seem. Good to evil seems evil. So I will do only good to you, Jed….”
The boy’s eyes swiveled wildly, fixed upon the man’s mouth. He saw there the strange and somehow lovely smile once flung as beatification to the Witch.
He gathered the boy somewhat closer and thought, Evil has only the power that we give it. I give you nothing. I take back. Starve. Starve. Starve.”
— “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” by Ray Bradbury, copyright 1962

The group that engineered the coup of 2000 intends to destroy the Constitutional government of the United States of America, and that of all its states, as well. Following World War II, this group began to infiltrate every single institution, religious and secular, with the plan of dismantling our rights, for a purpose so dark that it nearly defies belief.

The attacks of 911 were a portal, through which this group, hereafter simply referred to as “Anti,” has swiftly and stunningly trespassed against nearly every constitutional protection we have come to know. These protections were set in place by our founding fathers, to ensure our protection—not from a foreign foe, not from an alien “terrorist cell,--but from our own government. As Thomas Jefferson stated: "There are two enemies of the People: criminals and the government. Let us bind the second with the chains of the Constitution, so that it does not become the legalized version of the first."

It appears that the prophetic warning implicit in Jefferson’s statement has been fulfilled-- that the criminals have embedded themselves within the government and are quickly destroying our rights to protect ourselves from them.

Through NSA spying, our privacy rights have been effectively nullified. Even the privacy of our medical records has been violated, through HIPAA (quote section). Doctors, hospitals and pharmacists are now regularly releasing medical records to the vast surveillance network of “Anti.” Universities are now compelled to turn over essays and other student work to federal authorities, as mandated by the U.S. Patriot Act. Bookstore and library records are now also subject to disclosure to federal agents-- once again, courtesy of the Patriot Act. The First Amendment appears to be intact, but the public is becoming increasingly aware that the mainstream media is not telling us the truth. And the fact remains that reporters and whistleblowers are being murdered in our country. The faked “suicides” of Jim Hatfield (“Fortunate Son”) and Garry Webb sent a strong message to all journalists—“We can’t prosecute you for writing the truth, but we sure can kill you.”

Habeas corpus has also been trampled on, and through the Military Commissions Act, a U.S. citizen may now be detained indefinitely, without a trial.

This last development is most telling. It implies that we are now a nation of soldiers, with every one of us subject to a military tribunal, should we fail to comply with our “orders.”

And what, indeed, are our “orders?” What are we, as a nation of formerly free men and women, being compelled to do? Could it be that we are, as soldiers, being called to duty to kill? And, as implied in Section 817 of the U.S. Patriot Act, in Army Regulation 210-35 and in other pieces of legislation which were slipped by and ratified without the appropriate Congressional oversight or media attention, could it be that we are being called to duty to kill other American citizens?

911 has been repeatedly compared to the “Reichstag fires” in Hitler’s Germany. In order to consolidate his power, Hitler staged a “false flag” event, had his own Brown shirts burn down the German Parliament, and then blamed the arson on the Communists. He then used this bogus state of emergency to cement his powers as dictator, as well as to jump- start his plan to take over the world.

And we all know what else Hitler did.

On the dark morning of September 11, 2001, the world awoke to the specter of planes flying into New York skyscrapers and to the sight of our fellow Americans throwing themselves out of windows, screaming as they plummeted to earth. We heard explosions, the shattering of window and bone, and the buildings fell into their footprint. Dutifully, our television reporters, our defenders of the First Amendment, told us that a cadre of Muslim terrorists, armed with box cutters, eluded the NORAD command and accomplished this dreadful deed, masterfully planned by a man on dialysis, living in a cave in Afghanistan.

But some of us know a controlled demolition when we see one and the questions began. The seed of doubt was planted, and a movement of truth –seekers emerged.

The war against the American people continued to escalate. Following the passage of the U.S. Patriot Act, the Administration took further steps to quash dissent. As the Iraqi War, initiated because of--no one has quite adequately answered that question yet--toiled on, justified somehow by the attacks of 911, the President issued an Executive Order Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq. This was largely seen as an effort to criminalize war protest. In rapid- fire succession, the Executive office shot out Executive Order 13441, which is seen to affect those contributing monies to Syria, one of the “rogue states,” which is high on the list for invasion.

And increasingly, the war came home. In May 2007, Bush issued a National Security Directive (NSPD 51/HSPD 20) which would suspend constitutional government and provide the President broad dictatorial powers under martial law, should a “catastrophic emergency” take place (as it did on 911). And through the Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, recently passed by the Legislature we find the assault on American citizens amassing and gaining force. The Bill was largely regarded as a “thought crime” bill, intended to target those critical of the policies of the current Administration. In an article by Robert Weitzel on “Truthout,” he points out that the authors of the bill slipped in a phrase which simply smacks of Orwellian doublespeak. The authors declare the bill to be “An Act-to prevent homegrown terrorism, and for other purposes.” Weitzel goes on to dissect the implications of these “other purposes” with disturbing implications. He cites a RAND report, which claims, “homegrown terrorism will not be the result of jihad sleeper cells”. Rather it will result from “anti-globalists and radical environmentalists who challenge the intrinsic qualities of capitalism….” Weitzel writes, “Predictably, then (The Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act) is not about protecting homegrown Americans.”

This war against our constitutional rights, against the citizens of this country began early in the twentieth century, when Constitutional protections were suspended in 1933, and FDR declared a ‘state of emergency,’ and took us off the gold standard.

The 1973 Report of the Special Committee on the Termination of the National Emergency to the U.S. Senate states:
“Since March 9, 1933, the United States has been in a state of declared national emergency. In fact, there are now in effect four presidentially proclaimed states of national emergency: In addition to the national emergency declared by President Roosevelt in 1933, there are also the national emergency proclaimed by President Truman on December 16, 1950, during the Korean conflict, and the states of national emergency declared by President Nixon on March 23, 1970, and August 15, 1971.
These proclamations give force to 470 provisions of Federal law. These hundreds of statutes delegate to the President extraordinary powers, ordinarily exercised by the Congress, which affect the lives of American citizens in a host of all-encompassing manners. This vast range of powers, taken together, confer enough authority to rule the country without reference to normal constitutional processes.”

The above-mentioned “normal constitutional processes” were put into place to protect us from the government. The bill of rights, which has been virtually shredded by the Bush Administration, leads off with the caveat of “life, liberty and pursuit of happiness” as being fundamental, God-given rights. Our government has, in the past few years, trampled on our liberties and pursuits. Could it be that “Anti” also intends to deprive us of life?

The answer appears to be in the affirmative.

We are perched on the edge of the destruction of America. By persuading us we are in danger from a foreign foe, “Anti” has managed to steal from us all our protections from, well, from “Anti.”

In Ray Bradbury’s renowned novel, “Something wicked this way comes,” a dark carnival has come to the town of Green Town, Illinois. People begin to disappear, and two young boys, Jim and Will, in concert with Will’s father, come face to face with an evil so powerful that it does not appear to be defeatable. In the closing paragraphs of the book, Will’s father faces this evil off, and defeats it with…laughter.

What we see happening in The Probate Murders (The American’s Bulletin—Nov/Dec 07 and Jan/Feb 08 issues), in the water departments across this country ("Water As a Weapon"TAB July/Aug 07 and "Water Wars--An Update" Sept/Oct 07), in the reports of military bases being reconstructed as concentration camps, in the laws targeting the homeless, affirms the perception that our country, our sweet America, our beacon of democracy in the world, is now on a hell bent death-trip. But in order for “Anti” to accomplish its aims, it needs our cooperation and complicity. The probate murders could not be taking place without judges, police officers, social workers and others acting in collusion. The water weapon could not be situated beneath the streets across our fair nation without the complicity and silence of an entire cadre of engineers, draftsmen and other everyday people. To put it simply, “Anti” needs us. “Anti” needs us to accomplish its dreadful plan.

As Americans, you may be called into this battle, this battle between good and evil. It has been the same battle since time began, taking place in different manifestations, at different points in history. It is happening here, now.

You may –and some of you already have—be requested to do something so reprehensible, so morally unacceptable—and pressure may be put on you to do so. The pressure may be implied or overt. It may necessitate a decision on your part to stay at your job, or to walk away. It may involve other acts of courage and moral stamina. In addition, it may involve personal hardships, if you say “no.” But make no mistake; the decision you make will have a massive ripple effect.

Back in the early seventies, when I was a student at the University of California, the anti-war movement was heating up to a boil. We had a slogan, which found its way onto bumper stickers and posters. “What if they gave a war and nobody came?” You too may be called to war, in this battle that “Anti” is waging against the United States of America and its citizens.

The answer is very simple. You know right from wrong. And when---or if—you are called to battle, you will have the choice. You will always have this choice, to refuse. And, as did Will’s Dad in the novel, to laugh as you walk away.

I’m not saying this will be easy. Nothing important ever is. However, it is necessary, for the continued survival of the human race, and for your own soul’s destiny.
