Peninsula | U.S. | WomynFacebook Discriminates Against Nursing Moms
Members of Mothers International Lactation Campaign (MILC) held a *nurse-in* in front of Facebook's Palo Alto office today for three hours. Together with the Raging Grannies, who contributed a song written for the occasion (lyrics below) they protested Facebook's removal of user-posted images that show women breastfeeding their babies. Raging Grannies Say: female breasts are not "obscene"
Facebook's attitude is! The Raging Grannies recommended that the breastfeeding moms ditch discriminatory Facebook and visit https://we.riseup.net. It is powered by Crabgrass, a software libre web application designed for group and network organizing, and tailored to the needs of the global justice movement. Everyone joined in singing the song below. Rise Up! tune: My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean Oh Facebook you 'dis us so badly You denigrate the female form You go in and take out our photos When WILL you learn OUR breasts aren't porn! Chorus: Rise up, Rise up! Demand Facebook cease their opPRESsive ways! Rise up, Rise up And put back our pictures right now We're women who're feeding our babies The way nature meant it to be Yet Facebook says we're pornographic Is their so-called "service" so "free"? Chorus There are other options to Facebook Where humans rule the internet Will fight for our cyberspace freedom Let's ALL go join riseup dot net~! Raging Grannies Say: Facebook take your corporate greed, oppressive control-freak ways, and get lost! (As it so happens Facebook is moving out of its Palo Alto headquarters soon, but not very far away, probably to a location near googleland. Still in Raging Granny Territory! Grannies say: Facebook! We'll be Back)
