12/7: Eyewitness Report on Puerto Rico Teachers' Union Struggles
Pedro Angel Rivera, a labor videographer and media activist for the Puerto Rican Teachers union FMPR will be in San Francisco on December 7, 2008 to report on the victory of the FMPR in a recent election in Puerto Rico. The FMPR which represents 40,000 teachers has successfully fought charter schools in Puerto Rico. Musicians Avotcja and Jorge Molina will also perform and a brief video will be screened.

The Teachers Federation of Puerto Rico (FMPR) is one of the most militant and active group of teachers in the world. It is democratically run and represents the 40,000 teachers of Puerto Rico.
Join us for a special presentation by Puerto Rican film maker and FMPR supporter Pedro Angel Rivera, who will speak about the struggle of the union to maintain its independence and its right to strike. Pedro Angel Rivera is the most important labor film maker in Puerto Rico with his films "Operation Bootstrap" and "Plena Is Song, Plena Is Work". He is now producing labor videos for the FMPR and will screen a short video on this important struggle of the recent teacher's struggle.
