Barack Obama’s Choice for Secretary of State: Hillary “Totally Obliterate Iran” Clinton
[T]he question was, if Iran were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel, what would our response be? And I want the Iranians to know that if I am the president, we will attack Iran. And I want them to understand that. Because it does mean that they have to look very carefully at their society. Because whatever stage of development they might be in their nuclear weapons program, in the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.
-- Hillary Clinton (ABC News, 4/22/08)
During the presidential campaign, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama openly threatened war with Iran, a country of over 70 million people. In a February 1, 2007 speech to the American Israel
Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Clinton said, “We cannot, we should not, we must not, permit Iran to build or acquire nuclear weapons. And in dealing with this threat as I have said for a very
long time, no option can be taken off the table.” In a September 21, 2008 interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, Obama said, “I think that a nuclear armed Iran is not just a threat to us, it’s a threat to Israel. And it is a game changer in the region. It’s unacceptable. And that’s why I’ve said that I won’t take any options off the table, including military, to prevent them from obtaining a nuclear weapon.”
