Blaming Gays for Fractured Families- The Deeper Issues Banning Same Sex Marriage

by Cliff Parker
Growing numbers of women don't want to live with men and raise families. That, not same-sex marriage, presents the largest threat to traditional family structures, and is what has galvanized religious fundamentalists of all stripes to scapegoat gays. "The male order of our society seems to me to be straining to hold on to things," says Richard Rodriguez, an essayist and NAM writer. "The crisis for our time is really whether or not...the male authority over the social structure will loosen, whether there will be variant social structures which will not be controlled by the heterosexual male. That seems to be to be the problem, and it's larger than any vote in California is going to determine." Cliff Parker is the director of video production at New America Media.
