International | U.S. | Anti-War | Government & ElectionsPakistanis Skeptical About Obama
ISLAMABAD — While thousands of people across the globe were celebrating, many Pakistanis look with suspicions at US President-elect Barak Obama. "If someone thinks that with the victory of Barrack Obama, pressure on Pakistan vis-à-vis the war on terror will be released, then he is wrong," Dr. Khalida Ghous, a research scholar, told islamonline.net.
"Obama has unveiled his intentions very clearly that he will not hesitate to order US forces to attack Pakistan’s tribal areas to hunt down Al Qaeda and Taliban leadership." Obama swept to an historic victory as America's first black president after defeating Republican rival John McCain. He has pleaded for time to heal and transform the superpower. Obama, 47, will be inaugurated as the 44th US president on January 20, and inherit an economy mired in financial crisis, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and a nuclear showdown with Iran. "Like every Pakistani, I feel scared of his intentions to attack our tribal areas," said Nazeer Khan, a photographer. More |
