How Green is San Francisco and has Mayor Gavin Newsom read the Green principles?

by Francisco Da Costa
San Francisco touts it is Green. Mayor Gavin Newsom talks about Green but all over this City and County of San Francisco - nothing much linked to work force and practical works of Green are visible and what is more working. The Solar Power linked to Moscone Center is weak - in fact that whole center - needs a complete over haul. Cities and towns around San Francisco - are far ahead with Solar Projects, Wind Project, and producing Clean Energy. Here is San Francisco - there is too much talk, hype, and hot air.
In the early nineties some of us took Green as far as we could. We applied Green principles at building 1016 at the Presidio of San Francisco.

The Thoreau Center and what is now better known as the Tides Center - benefited from those applied sustainable principles.

At that time - San Francisco was and is still in its infancy. San Francisco cannot talk about Green - and especially large Solar Project - without a sound and capable work force.

We have City Build that has wasted over $8 million and continues to waste money. Leading the packing of the wasters - one Rhonda Simmons.

City Build to date has not participated in one major Solar Project and does not have a work force that it has trained.

In the East Bay there are several companies that have come to San Francisco and worked on some Green Projects

Most of the bigger Solar Companies have worked with corrupt San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Project Mangers - and most of them when Susan Leal was the General Manager.

The Moscone Center is touted as working - but, any close inspection of this Solar Project will reveal greater flaws.

San Francisco is way behind - and all we have until now is talk and more talk. In recent months some drab press conferences have been held by Mayor Gavin Newsom. At one Press conference he exhibited one Black youth - who could not even express himself.

Mayor Gavin Newsom kept prompting him - in his questions - prodding and leading him to make statements that were favorable to the on going Solar programs that are going no where.

For starters it is very expensive to buy quality solar panels and what is more to have quality installers in San Francisco.

Way back in the year 2000 - some 58 homes and Churches in the Bayview were installed with Solar panels.

None of those that made this happen were compensated well nor recognized. Then suddenly, the SF Department of Environment around 2004 started taking credit for all this work - for sure never once giving credit to James Morrison.

James Morrison went out of his way to Chicago to work with Spire a company that could have established itself here in San Francisco and produced solar panels. Then - we could have taken a qualified work force and made good things happen.

Mayor Gavin Newsom, Jesse Blout, and those at SF Department of Environment did all in their power to screw James Morrison and his plans.

We are in the year 2008 and we do not have the capability to match our words, the Spin and Media hype - we talk the talk but cannot walk the walk. Leading the pack the Phil Ting and Mayor Gavin Newsom. Two scum bags that have sold our City to the hogs.

Where are the companies they talk about that by now should have produced some Solar Panels?
Where is the qualified work force to work on Green Buildings and more install quality solar panels? Much as we see in Germany and the leading countries that practice Sustainable practices?

Mayor Gavin Newsom and your cronies - take some time to read the Green Principles:
