Santa Cruz Baroque Festival presents its annual

Fall Organ Benefit Concert

featuring Linda Burman-Hall and the Santa Cruz Brass Quartet

Day and Time: Saturday, November 15 at 7:30pm.
Location: Holy Cross Church (Mission Plaza, 126 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA)

Program Information:

Ushering in the holiday season, the royal sounds of a brass choir will merge with the stately sonorities of the historic Holy Cross pipe organ in a festive concert planned for Saturday, November 15 at 7:30pm.

SCBF Artistic Director Linda Burman-Hall will play 400 years of selected organ works. The featured performing group for the event is the Santa Cruz Brass Quartet, a professional ensemble consisting of Craig Simmons and Charles Old (trumpets), John Thomas (trombone), and Kevin Blodgett (bass trombone).

In addition to Medieval and Renaissance music, the repertoire for this special event spans from 'The Birth of the Baroque' through the 'High Baroque' and beyond. Composers featured include Giovanni Gabrieli — whose call-and-response music for Venice's San Marco Cathedral is credited for influencing the Baroque style — and Johann Sebastian Bach — whose visionary works are widely held as the culmination of that same era.

Dr. Burman-Hall, a music researcher and early music keyboardist, is known locally for her work as a harpsichordist in particular, but has played pipe organs in Portugal, the Netherlands, and Indonesia, as well as in the United States.

Admission: $20. All proceeds from this annual organ concert will benefit the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival, a community non-profit arts organization now in its 36th season.
