Ralph Nader and Matt Gonzalez will be running as the Peace and Freedom nominees in California . They won the nomination in August defeating Cynthia McKInney (The Green party nominee ) Gloria La Riva (Party of Liberation and Socialism ) and Brian Moore (Socialist Party USA ) on the first round .
There was some concern among delegates due to Nader not being a Socialist (and PFP being a Socialist electoral party ) But Nader eased some of the concerns by saying that he agreed with ''80%'' of the party's program .
Matt Gonzales stated that he was completely in agreement and considered ' himself 'evolving leftward from the Greens ''. Several delegates said that fact that Gonzalez was Nader's running mate was a deal clincher for them . One stated that while though she was respectful of Nader's anti-corporate exposes , she was leary of his politics . She went on to say '' The best thing about Nader is Gonzalez ''
Let's see what Matt Gonzalez has to say Friday night. I'm especially interested in what he has to say about what happens after Election day . How will those of us to the Left of the democrats function in wake of the probable Obama victory . The expectations among Obama supporters will be very high . How will people react when most of what Obama does will be business as usual ? Will they be outraged and hit the streets ? Or will they sink into demoralization and inactivity ? What can we as Left activists do about it ?
