Raging Grannies Rock at Democratic National Convention
The Raging Grannies of Denver sang on the 16th Street pedestrian mall just a couple of short blocks from the Democratic National Convention. The line "Who can marry?" prompted the crowd to chant the refrain "anyone who wants to, anyone who wants to" joining the Grannies in song. Seasoned activists, the Grannies sang day and night at multiple locations for peace and gay rights, foregoing naps for the cause.

The Denver "gaggle" of Raging Grannies has a huge following and has been known to show up on the state capitol steps with members of the Flobots and other well-known anti-war performers in the past. The entire city of Denver was the Grannies' stage during the recent Democratic National Convention.
Frequent performers at the Mercury Cafe, DNC week found them back on stage, this time at a fundraiser for Colorado Indymedia. Elsewhere in the city they entertained with Velina and friends from the San Francisco Mime Troupe.
Granny Gillian writes that, "The night crowds tended to be more enthusiastic, no doubt assisted by a few beers! Although there was a huge police presence we were never hassled, in fact [when we sang] *Goodbye Dubya* I think they were having a hard time not cheering!"
Other activists, including a CodePink member who was brutalized, did not fare so well at the hands of Denver's police force. The Grannies (possibly impervious to similar treatment? one can hope!) strolled in and out of the protesting crowds serenading visitors and fellow demonstrators alike.
