During the evening of Monday, August 25th, 2008, an activity announced on the weekly schedule of DNC response was an evening of meeting democratic delegates at their hotels. A little over an hour ago, AP wires started announcing that 50 protesters were trapped between two police lines. The Denver Post set up a live camera, (where the situation is still quite active at 7:30pacific time ). For the past half hour, it has shown a line of police next to a very large crowd of far more than 50 people. The live cam shows that it is dark, but a photo at the Post site shows a circle of protesters surrounded during daylight, so this process has been ongoing for a while. http://www.denverpost.com/politicswestnews/ci_10301186
Loud protest chants (with voices of hundreds rather than dozens of people) suggest that the people milling around in the courtyard are not all delegate or passerby onlookers, but a crowd of supporters. The chants of 'let them go' suggests that they are watching a smaller group to the upper right in the screen be arrested. The Denver Post has written that protesters were sprayed with a chemical. As more reliable details trickle in, please append this information as comments or replace this link in the indybay wire. |
