As activists get closer to Summit location, G8 excesses come into view

Approximately 1,000 activists are camping in meadows getting as close as possible to the glitzy resort location of Japan's G8 Summit. Japanese authorities, meanwhile, continue to monitor every move potential protesters make, justifying their close watch by saying they are on the lookout for “terrorist strikes”.

While protesters rough it on damp ground, still miles away from their goal, Summit participants were seen on NHK broadcast discussing agriculture and famine with invited African leaders.

The world food crisis not withstanding, Summit attendees enjoyed an eight-course 19 dish feast prepared by 25 chefs. The UK Guardian summed up the situation saying saying,
"...not since Marie Antoinette was supposed to have leaned from a Versailles palace window and suggested that the breadless peasants eat cake can leaders have demonstrated such insensitivity to daily hardship than at the luxury Windsor hotel on the Japanese island of Hokkaido."
