San Francisco | LGBTI / QueerSistas In The Pit rock San Francisco Dyke March 2008
Hear a strong 20-minute set from "All black girl Rock and Roll Band", part of 4-hours of speakers and music at Dolores Park preceding the Dyke March. (20 min)
Sistas In The Pit is a relatively new Bay Area band. They've played shows around the Bay Area the past few years and have a CD out, one of my favorite local bands. Sistas in the Pit are Anita "Pa" Lofton (well known House DJ Anita Lofton); world renowned Hip Hop/Soul artist Kofy Brown on loud, thumping bass; and leela Grant on drums. They mix punk, psychedelic and other hard-rock sounds well, while sharing vocals.
The first time I saw them in a club, they were excited about an upcoming show on a pricey bill with punk legends The Stooges at a big Clear Channel venue, I'm sure the exposure they got from that tour has increased their visibility. They whipped up a lot of excitement at Dolores Park, playing near the end of the event. I don't think the sound system did them justice, but take the opportunity to hear a sampling of this band and remember to see them around!
