Obama / McCain visit San Diego 7/13, 7/14 - @ NCLR -Convention Center-

by a
Presidential contenders Barack Obama and John McCain visit San Diego Sunday, July 13 and Monday, July 14, respectively. They will speak mid-day at the Convention Center on Harbor Dr. in downtown San Diego during the National Council of La Raza 2008 annual conference.
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), a Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, will hold its annual convention in San Diego from Saturday, July 12 through Tuesday, July 15. It will be held at the downtown San Diego Convention Center (111 W. Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101). Special guest speakers include, on Sunday, July 13 Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama and on Monday, July 14 Republican presidential nominee, John McCain. Speaking arrangements are scheduled between 11:00am - 1:00pm for Obama and 12:30pm - 2:30pm for McCain. The NCLR convention pricetag, including all meal, evening and workshop events, is somewhere around $650 to register. However, during the convention they will be putting on the free "2008 Latino Expo USA" which includes a Health Fair, Housing Fair and Career Day. Times for these events are 10:30am to 6:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday then 9:30am to 11:30am and 2:30pm to 5:00pm for the Career Day on Monday.

It is an interesting time for these candidates to be coming to San Diego. Both have secured their parties nomination so the rhetoric, propaganda and blatant lies they have been repeating for so long is finally showing through. Both candidates shifting their campaign strategies towards the right. McCain campaigning as a moderate is now trying to win over and get the backing of the religious right, while allowing bills to pass in support of torture techniques. Obama winning over the left with a propaganda campaign of "CHANGE", "HOPE" and "PROGRESS" is now feeling the pressure of special interests and the temptations of privilege that they provide. He has recently allowed the telecommunications industry to acquire immunity for their part in violations of civil liberties during the warrant-less wire tapping program. He has also withdrawn his plan to withdraw troops from Iraq, claiming he will visit Iraq and conclude on a new position.
