Would Texas kill

[ Sherry Swiney writes:]
Despite DNA testing
that has cleared [Greg] Wright of evidence found on a pair of jeans,
and a polygraph test
that Wright has passed
(which shows he has been telling the truth all along),
as well as a written confession from codefendant John Wade Adams,
the state of Texas has issued an execution date
of September 9, 2008 for Gregory Wright.

[ Comment by Tortuga Bi LIBERTY:
I can't confirm or deny the statements, above,
by Sherry Swiney.
However, I CAN imagine a state government
executing a man who hasn't killed anyone.
(1) Consider the persons released from death rows, in recent years,
because of DNA tests. How many died in earlier decades,
before modern tests were invented?
(2) Some states have a death penalty for offenses other
than murder. So does the fedferal government.
(3) California has a "felony murder" doctrine,
so that John can be punished for a murder committed by Sam;
if they were co-operating in a robbery, or other felony.
(4) And then there are attitude of contempt for some defendants,
such as male career criminals who aren't white.
Such persons may be viewed as barely human.
(5) Such attitudes reminds me of a true story,
from the U.S. wars against the Native American tribes
A commander orders his subordinate
to begin a full assault
on the "Indians".
But, asks the subordinate,
how can we tell
the friendly Indians
from the hostile ones?
The answer is: "KILL THEM ALL.
God will know His own."
So glad I no longer live
in Texas,
