by 2008 (savefreedom [at] yahoogroups.com)
.........
Will pols and cops crack down on the next Bay2breakers, in May 2009?

......

Bureaucrats, police, NIMBYs and pols threaten
The City's
annual Bay 2 Breakers event.

Recreation and Park Department spokeswoman
Rose Dennis complains about drunken young adults:
"They were stumbling around, hammered.
Peeing.
Women with their boobs hanging out.
Staggering around Balboa and 31st waiting
for a bus to take them home."

......

Tortuga Bi LIBERTY replies:
"Okay, many were drunk.
But they weren't violent.
And, thank Gaya, they weren't driving cars.
For a crowd of at least sixty thousand,
the scene was remarkably peaceful.

My constructive suggestions are:
(1) more porta-potties;
(2) more buses;
and (3) NO glass bottles.
Partyers should bring their beer in cans or kegs,
and they should decant other beverages
into plastic containers."

Bay to Breakers should last only 1 hour as it takes the winners 34 minutes, and the rest of the serious runners about 1 hour. This is obviously a drinking party for those who have too much time on their hands and lots of energy, which means they are not poor, hungry and homeless. For people who live in the downtown area where this race begins, we have to endure the snotty young people, mostly from outside San Francisco, in Halloween costumes in May being loud and pushy early Sunday morning when we are trying to rest after having worked all week long. When I was in my 20s, I had cultural hobbies to pursue and classes which required studying on weekends, in addition to working 40 hours a week. Drinking parties were never on my agenda and public drunkenness and lewd and lascivious behavior is simply outrageous. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS OR LEWD BEHAVIOR. Childhood ends at age 10, and that includes Halloween, which is best celebrated on October 31 by children under 10. This kind of event can mostly attracts people in their 20s in large numbers, as vigorous exercise and alcoholic drinking parties are most popular among the young, and Bay to Breakers is for most, just another alcoholic drunking party, which no one needs. So, PLEASE, ORGANIZERS OF BAY TO BREAKERS, END IT AT 9 A.M. Otherwise, just cancel the whole stupid nonsense. We do not need any drinking parties. All these people who think this nonsense is so wonderful have lots of energy which we need to defeat Prop 98 to save rent control. That takes lots of precinct walking throughout the entire State of California. If you can walk the Bay to Breakers, you could help us walk the thousands of precincts we need to walk to save rent control and get people to vote NO ON PROP 98.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
