Sunday, May 11, 2008 : MEXICO CITY--Organized crime violence left dozens dead last week in Mexico, reports Univision Online. The capital city, previously at the margins of the violence concentrated in the northern states, has become a site of drug trafficking attacks. Four top police officials have died in ten days in Mexico City.
Esteban Robles, head of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Mexico City police, was shot outside his home Friday, CNN reports. Edgar Millan Gomez, one of the country's top cops, who led national police operations against drug traffickers, was shot and killed at his home early Thursday morning in central Mexico City. Millan was honored by President Felipe Calderon, who vowed to continue fighting crime. So far in 2008, the secretary of Defense said the government has arrested 5,480 Mexicans and 121 foreigners for drug trafficking related offenses.
