Arab Americans Seek Apology from McCain Campaign

Wednesday, May 7, 2008 : The McCain campaign gave into a bloggers protests and removed a prominent Arab American community leader from its Michigan finance committee, reports The Arab American News. The McCain supporter was Ali Jawad, president of Armada Oil & Gas Company and founder of the Lebanese American Heritage Club.

The blogger said he had ties to Hezbullah, classified by the United States as a terrorist group. Jawad is known in the community for his philanthropy. Last week an organization he founded in the 1980s awarded 70 high school seniors with $1000 scholarships. Arab American leaders claim the blogger regularly posts hate messages and rants against Arab Americans, Muslims and Islam.
